Perryton is hometown of Hank the Cowdog, the lovable character in the series of books by award winning Perryton author, John R. Erickson, and the hometown of baseball's Mike Hargrove.  Perryton is also the hometown of Angela Arenivar, finalist in the 1999 Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee who starred as herself in the Oscar nominated documentary Spellbound.
